Biographic Note

I was born under the sign of Virgo in Argentina and moved to Caracas, Venezuela at the age of 10. Believe it or not, my passion for making books and capturing images began even earlier, when I would write stories about a little Indian girl named "Nube Blanca" (White Cloud), illustrate them, and read them to my friends at school.

During my printmaking major in college, I came to understand the theory of why I had always been drawn to the book format: the idea of content presented in a specific order, the element of time, the almost intimate relationship between object and viewer. This interest led me to create a series of books which I called the Enigmographic Series (images below, under "Book Arts").

I guess it only made sense that, given my passion for paper and black and white imagery, I would develop a keen interest in photography. Perhaps I was lucky to begin studying it back when digital imaging was not such an established field. This allowed me to become familiar with the traditional elements of photography, to experience the darkroom and the chemistry, the feeling of which is irreplaceable.

In 2001, I moved to Boston in order to train as a bookbinder at the North Bennet Street School. Here, I learned the trade of bookmaking, used by man since approximately the 4th century (images below, under "Bookbinding"). Although I focused primarily on the technical aspects of creating such an object, I continued to make books with content, such as poetry and photographs.

After seven years of training in printmaking, photography and bookbinding, and having gone a long way since those early childhood tales of Nube Blanca, I feel the same joy I felt as a 10-year-old whenever I produce a book or an image...except now the books are leather-bound, the stories are a little more elaborate, and the images are captured by a lens.

It is my hope that, through this page, you will get a glimpse of what it is I love to do.
